Despite the challenges presented by various economic events, the cement sector in Spain maintains a positive trend. Cement consumption in the first five months of 2025 increased by 5% compared to the same period last year, reaching a total of 4.88 million tons, according to data shared by Oficemen, the industry’s trade association.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The medium-term outlook also confirms a positive trend. In the cumulative period of the last 12 months (from May 2024 to April 2025), total cement consumption reached 15.1 million tons, representing a 6.1% increase compared to the same period last year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This trend shows signs of recovery in sectors such as residential construction, public works, and renovation, areas that have benefited from both private and public initiatives. Programs such as the Recovery, Transformation, and Resilience Plan promoted by the Spanish government have facilitated investments in sustainable infrastructure, which has had a positive impact on demand for construction materials.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Regarding foreign trade, exports grew by 1.2% in the last 12 months, reaching 4.9 million tons, equivalent to almost 60,000 tons more than the previous period. Meanwhile, imports showed a moving annual growth of 27.9%, reflecting a possible diversification strategy involving international suppliers or adjustments in domestic production.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Companies such as Cementos Molins, LafargeHolcim Espa\u00f1a, Cementos Portland Valderrivas, and Votorantim Cimentos Espa\u00f1a continue to lead the sector, adapting to new environmental and energy efficiency requirements. Investment in more sustainable plants and products with a lower carbon footprint is also making a difference.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Furthermore, collaboration between the private sector and the public administration will be essential to continue driving growth. The energy transition and the digitalization of the construction process are two challenges being addressed jointly by associations such as Oficemen, companies, and regulatory bodies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
